Time for a change, throw the bums out.
The two biggest problems in NYC, that underlies all the other problems, are the oversized annual budget & accumulated municipal debt. Everything the City does, or wants to do, needs money ... all of that money comes from you the taxpayer, and you're all tapped out.
The budget went from $25billion in the last year of the Guiliani administration in 2001, to about $105billion under the Adams administration. That's more than four times as much; even if you account for inflation it's still three times as much. The money has to come from somewhere, usually from your pocket. Income tax, sales tax, real estate tax, gasoline tax, cigarette tax, marijuana tax! And when they can't squeeze more tax out of you, they borrow money by selling municipal bonds. If you divide the annual spending by 3.5million NYC taxpayers, you'll see that each taxpayer is on the hook for about $30,000 per year, plus their share of the accumulated debts. Are you getting your money’s worth?
Meanwhile, the City Council is wasting time on passing the most inconsequential laws; laws that make it illegal to sell guinea pigs at pet shops, that make it illegal to give away plastic forks with takeout food unless requested by customer, a law that legalizes jay-walking since non-white people get ticketed disproportionately for that. They waste their time on nonsense while the city goes bankrupt.
During the Deblasio administration, the annual budget was ~$80 billion; during the Adams administration it's ~$100-$105 billion... That adds up to $500 billion in just the last six years ..where did it go? Where? What was it wasted on?
are the subways, roads, bridges, sidewalks all in excellent condition?
are our students graduating at the top levels nationally?
do you feel safe on the subway? is it running on time?
is crime going down, are the homeless and mentally ill being cared for?
NONE OF THIS WILL CHANGE until the local government is swept clean, until many of the laws are changed, until a new smaller budget is passed.
We need all new people in the Council, in the Mayor's office, in the bureaucracies.
This November, vote the incumbents out.
